1915. Nieves Xenes dies in Havana.

Her birth occurred in Quivicán, the head town of the current municipality with a similar name that is currently part of the Mayabeque province. Quivicán was founded on September 2, 1569 when it was granted to Jerónimo Vaca Renjifo with the purpose of creating a hacienda with the aim of raising cattle. On September 18, 1878, the Governor General approved the creation of Quivicán as a municipality.

Nieves, still a teenager, moved to Havana, where she appeared at literary gatherings. Love is the main theme in her poetry, which is characterized by being sincere and passionate.

She was a founding member of the National Academy of Arts and Letters.

All of her work was collected in a volume with a prologue by Aurelia Castillo de González, who was born in the city of Camagüey on January 27, 1842. Due to her patriotic work, Nieves was expelled from Cuba by order of the Spanish Captain General Valeriano Weyler. . Years after returning to her homeland, she joined literary and journalistic work.

In his artistic work, he was considered one of the best improvisers that Cuba has had. He officially began his career as a decimist in 1939. Some time later he went on to work at Emisora ​​Mil Diez, in a program sponsored by the Partagás cigarette company. From that moment on, the radio became a medium for his dissemination. When the legendary and current television program Palmas y Cañas was founded, he actively participated with various artists, among others, Justo Vega, who was his partner in the controversies and at the same time his great and eternal friend.

Palmas y Cañas spreads the different expressions of country music, tenths, improvisations, seguidillas, tunes, controversies and Cuban point. He is also known as the Cuban guateque. The first broadcast of it occurred on October 19, 1962.

Adolfo Alfonso passed away on January 23, 2012, in Havana at the age of 87.
