Havana ephemeris. July 5th.

 

2000. Clementina Serra dies in Havana.

With a long career and fruitful revolutionary life, from a very young age she stood out for her political ideas. Along with her husband, also a revolutionary fighter Osvaldo Sánchez Cabrera, she carried out different tasks assigned by the Popular Socialist Party, first, and later by the July 26 Movement.

She was the founder in 1960 of the Federation of Cuban Women. She joined its National Directorate.

She was also the first National Director of the Children's Circles, an institution for which she fought tenaciously, understanding its strategic value in terms of greater incorporation of women into the economic and social life of the country.

 

2006. Armando Soler, “Cholito”, dies in Havana.

He started in the theater when he was only 15 years old and was part of the Spanish company of Nicolás Rodríguez. He played comic and tragic characters, in operettas, zarzuelas, dramas and other genres.

He appeared both in film, radio and television. It was in this last means of diffusion that he began to interpret the character of Cholito.

Beyond his work as an artist, he was a combatant in the clandestine struggle and after the popular victory in 1959 he was the founder of the National Revolutionary Militias. He actively participated in carrying out various tasks in the country.

For his meritorious work, awards and decorations were conferred on him, among them, the Distinction for National Culture, the Raúl Gómez García Medal, the Replica of the Mambí Machete of Máximo Gómez, the National Prize for Humor, the National Prize for Radio and the artist of merit status.

His birth took place in the Cuban capital on August 14, 1925.
