Havana ephemeris. July 4th.

1929. Enrique Hart Dávalos is born in Havana.

Together with his brother Armando Hart and Faustino Pérez, he was the founder of the National Revolutionary Movement, an organization that emerged with the aim of confronting the Batista dictatorship.

That organization was headed by Rafael García Bárcenas, a university professor with democratic, nationalist and anti-imperialist ideas.

Later, he linked up with members of the July 26 Movement, held various responsibilities and participated in different actions.

He died in the city of Matanzas on April 21, 1958.

 

1929. Francisco de Oraá is born in Havana.

He was a writer and researcher considered one of the most intense lyrical voices in contemporary Cuban literature.

He served as a jury in the Casa de las Américas Latin American contest, in the national contest of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba and in the Literary Workshops of various provinces of the country.

His poetic work was translated into Polish, French, Russian, Bulgarian, Yugoslavian, and became known in literary magazines and books.

For his meritorious work, he was awarded the National Prize for Literature in 1993, awarded by the Cuban Book Institute. It is the most important Literary Award conferred in Cuba as a testimony of the public recognition of the work of those writers who have enriched the legacy of Cuban culture in general and of its literature in particular with the contribution of a transcendent literary work.

It was created in 1982 by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Cuba.
