Due to the large number of monuments by national and foreign sculptors of dissimilar architectural manifestations and styles, this necropolis is of great significance. The grandeur of its façade stands out, which is topped by a sculptural ensemble that symbolizes the three theological virtues, faith, hope and charity. This sculptural group was the work of the Cuban sculptor José Vilalta de Saavedra, who was also the author of other important monuments in this cemetery.

He was one of the first Cuban sculptors trained in Carrara. He became known in Cuba when he presented the Monument project to the eight medical students and won first place. His work is also present in the Colón cemetery in Havana.
