Havana ephemeris. June 25th.

1964. The mambí doctor, Brigadier General Daniel Gispert, died in Havana at the age of 93.

He was the last of the Cuban independence fighters who reached the rank of General to die.

His birth occurred in San Antonio de los Baños on July 21, 1871. He attained the title of Doctor of Medicine at the University of Havana.

He joined the war for Cuban independence in 1895 in the then central province of Las Villas.

After the conclusion of the war, in the early years of the twentieth century

he held multiple responsibilities, both in the capital and in Pínar del Río.

In Havana, he was also a Special Health Inspector, head of the General Health and Welfare Inspection Office, director of the Calixto García Hospital Veterans Ward, director of the Guanabacoa Nursing Home and President of the Superior Health Board.

She was a notable Cuban sculptor, painter, poet, psychologist, journalist and writer who, by vocation, ideology and revolutionary identity, created monuments, pictorial works as well as wrote books related to events and historical figures from Cuba and other parts of the world.

Her birth took place in the city of Sanctí Spíritus on August 28, 1922. At the age of 17, she was a sculpture and painting student at the San Alejandro School and the Secondary Education Institute of Havana. She later studied psychology and journalism. In the 1940s and 1950s her intellectual and political concerns grew and she also fought for social justice and equality of women with men. She associated with young Orthodox youth.

After the revolutionary triumph she worked in the cultural and diplomatic fields. Several of her books were published in Cuba and some of her works were translated and published abroad.

In addition to her pictorial work, poetry books, novels and journalistic works, she made numerous sculptures on the Cuban Revolution and historical figures.

For her meritorious work, the "José Martí" Cultural Society awarded her the Utility of Virtue award. She was also awarded the Distinction for National Culture and the Félix Elmuza Order.

Her birth took place in the city of Sancti Spíritus on August 28, 1922.
