1812. Antonio Bachiller y Morales is born in Havana.

His childhood is spent in a home lavish in material and spiritual wealth. Descendant of a family of illustrious Mexicans and maternal relative of the Marshal of Ayacucho, Antonio José de Sucre, he inherits from his elders the brilliant talent that allows him to appraise the urgencies of his time. Thanks to the studies carried out, he was able to function as a journalist and professor of economics. In his professional work, he exalts the highest values ​​of science and art in Cuba and advocates popular education and absolute freedom of trade. As a result of his knowledge of Agronomy, he wrote a Manual of General Agriculture used by peasants and praised by the most renowned specialists of the time.

He also carried out studies on the Cuban literary movement that appear published in newspapers in Havana and Madrid. He elaborated the first complete bibliographic work that records our history. In response to this, he was recognized as the Father of the Cuban Bibliography. This prolific and erudite researcher and writer served as a professor at the San Carlos Seminary, the Economic Society of Friends of the Country and the University of Havana. He also founded the Instituto de Segunda Enseñanza in the Cuban capital.

His death occurred in Havana on January 10, 1889.

At one point in his speech he stated: “In any case, the Cuban Revolution - as we said on May 1 - is a reality in the history of the world, one of those realities that, despite those who do not resign themselves to them, It will be a reality that cannot be erased. We are today the first trench in America. The humble masses of all the peoples of this continent look towards Cuba, full of hope, and do not hesitate to affirm - without any hesitation - that Cuba is their example, that their triumph depends on Cuba's triumph”.

In the final part of his speech he pointed out: "For each one of us, individually, the slogan is: Fatherland or Death! But for the people, who will ultimately be victorious, the slogan is: We will win!" .
