Havana ephemeris. June 6th

1961. The Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Cuba is created.

It is the body in charge of directing, executing and controlling the application of the policy of the State and the Government regarding the security of the State and the internal order of the country.

It was created by Law 940 replacing and expanding the Ministry of the Interior, which existed in Cuba before the triumph of the Revolution. Its main mission is to guarantee citizen security. Its headquarters are located in a building located in the Plaza de la Revolución "José Martí" in Havana.

Among the bodies that make up this Ministry are: The National Revolutionary Police (PNR), the Technical Directorate of Investigations (DTI), the Department of State Security (DSE), the Traffic Directorate, the Directorate of Border Guard Troops, the Cuban Fire Department, Directorate of Personal Security, Directorate of Criminal Investigation and Operations, Directorate of Penitentiary Establishments, Directorate of Attention to Minors and Directorate of Identification, Immigration and Aliens.

1988. The prominent Cuban musicologist and instrumentalist Odilio Urfé dies in Havana.

Son of the famous musician José Urfé, from a young age he turned out to be a child prodigy since he was seen playing as a percussionist in the musical band of the town of Madruga. He then graduated in violin and flute specialties, and later in piano.

Years later in his artistic work he founded the Popular Concert Orchestra. He was also the creator of the Folkloric Research Institute, an institution that he organized in 1949 and that for several years developed a relevant work. Another important achievement in his professional activity was the work he did to save for posterity the music of Gumersindo, Sindo, Garay, the works of the Grenet brothers, Ernesto Lecuona and other outstanding Cuban composers.

He also participated as a jury in national and international musical events. He was also General Director of Music of the National Council of Culture. He also held various responsibilities in organizations related to music, among which was serving as Secretary General of the Cuban Committee of the International Music Council.

His birth took place in the town of Madruga, then province of Havana, on September 18, 1921.
