5 DE JUNIO - DÍA MUNDIAL DEL MEDIO AMBIENTE - Noticias de las Flores

In Cuba, and in Havana specifically, educational programs are developed in order to inform the population about the consequences of deforestation and forest degradation, for which the date is selected to encourage all the inhabitants of the island. The program includes tree planting by children from the museum classrooms project in the historic center of Havana, as well as the awarding of the contest Creating my seedbed, with the active participation of that sector of the population.

A well-known example of what the environment means for the capital is the Parque Metropolitano, also known as Parque Almendares, which is considered the green lung of the city. It constitutes a tropical forest of high landscape value and the only area within the metropolis with the presence of an urban forest that crosses the land corresponding to four municipalities of Havana. Various initiatives have been put into practice in the park, to encourage love of nature and the development of its areas.

1929. Vicente Revuelta is born in Havana.

He began his artistic career when he was just seven years old. He participated in amateur contests and radio shows. He entered the Municipal School of Dramatic Art and later in the Theater Board and the University Theater.

From a professional point of view, his acting career began in 1946 with the play Forbidden to Suicide in Spring, under the direction of Alejandro Casona. In 1952 he traveled to Paris, where he continued his training. At the end of 1954 he returned to Cuba and joined the Sociedad Cultural Nuestro Tiempo. In 1958 he founded, together with his sister Raquel de El, the Teatro Estudio group, an emblematic collective that exhibited the best and most advanced of the Cuban and international theater repertoire. From 1959 he directed multiple works and participated as an actor in several of his stagings and in various films. The cinema remembers him in a very special way among the protagonists of The survivors, by Tomás Gutiérrez Alea.

He developed significant teaching work in several cultural groups and institutions and in the Higher Institute of Art, a center that granted him the status of Doctor Honoris Causa in Art.

For his meritorious work, he was awarded the National Theater Award in 1999. Also, among other decorations, he was awarded the Félix Varela Order and the Alejo Carpentier Medal.

He was also an example of a creator who showed his strength not to be overcome by difficulties. He died on January 10, 2012 in Havana when he was 82 years old.
