1855.  The first postage stamp circulates in Cuba with the effigy of Isabel Segunda, Spanish monarch.

This stamp also circulated in Puerto Rico and the Philippines, but in the same year of 1855, another batch arrived in Cuba, supposedly the first stamps made by the Casa Impresora de Madrid to be used directly in our territory. At the present time the Stamp Day in Cuba is celebrated on this date of April 24.

2000.  The Fourth Ibero-American Meeting of Women and Communication begins in Havana.

It was attended by a hundred journalists from ten countries. It was convened by the Union of Cuban Journalists, the Pablo de la Torriente Brau Publishing House, the José Martí International Institute of Journalism, the Federation of Cuban Women, the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba, as well as the Latin American Federation of Journalists and the World Association of Community Radio Broadcasters.

The meeting dealt with the image of women in the mass media, the challenges of globalization, women as objects and subjects of television news and sexist language in communication products.
